Linseed/Flaxseed is a healthy super food and can be used to make tea, which is great for chesty coughs - We were recently sent this recipe for Linseed Tea from an 1852 book called "A Plain Cookery Book for the Working Classes" by Charles Elmé Francatelli (an anglo-italian cook) - we hope you like it as much as us!
Linseed Tea - Serves 1
1 Table spoon of The Linseed Farm linseeds
Peel of half a lemon
Lemon Juice
Honey
Muslin for straining
Put a tablespoon of linseed into a clean earthern pot or pipkin with a quart of water, and little orange or lemon rind. Boil gently for 10 minutes and then strain through muslin into a jug. Sweeten with honey, add the juice of a lemon. Stir all together and give this beverage to combat irritation of the chest and lungs - in the case of the latter the lemon juice had better be omitted.
Linseed tea in its purest form is an excellent accessory in aiding to relieve people who are afflicted with gout.
